Token usage on large files.

I went from using 1 million tokens doing a ton to using 8 million in less than an hour.
I don't understand how to stop this from happening?

I prompt it, create a .txt file, duplicate it, upload the .txt, it reads the prompt.
I run the first command, and then it immediately tells me the file is too large.

Can somebody with more experience tell me what exactly I'm doing wrong?
